On the night of May 19, Valve released another update for the competitive shooter CS2. The main innovation of the patch was a console command that forever changes the mechanics of creating multi-layer boosts, also known in the community as "towers."
The developers added the parameter
weapon_accuracy_stack_boost_limit, which is set to a default value of two. This means that in official matchmaking and tournaments, players will no longer be able to build boosts with three or four people. Now, the "tower" is limited to just two models. However, administrators of custom servers retained the ability to change this parameter at their discretion. In addition to the boost limitation, the May 19 update brought a number of important technical fixes:
- Spectator Mode: graphical glitches with post-processing effects and model stuttering through X-ray when switching between players have been fixed. A bug that allowed spectators to see the damage effect has also been corrected.
- Gameplay: the animation for switching the AWP sniper rifle from the draw mode to idle state has been adjusted. Additionally, the developers improved the synchronization of jump-throw grenade throws and increased the accuracy of the preview camera for trajectory.
- Cache Map: the coverage of glass surfaces has been changed for more accurate bullet mark display. Clipping (model collision) of players and grenades around window frames and ventilation shaft entrances has been improved.
The height limitation for boosts is an important decision for the balance of CS2. Multi-layer "towers" often allowed teams to find unforeseen angles of view and break the geometry of maps by peeking over high textures. Now, tactical possibilities will become more predictable, and the era of legendary triple boosts has officially come to an end.
