Maxim Dyomin, the owner of Tundra Esports, provided an explanation for the decision to sell the Dota team. According to him, the main reason was the changes in the taxation system for betting companies, which have historically been a key source of funding for esports organizations.
Dyomin noted that against the backdrop of the new tax conditions, maintaining a top-tier Dota 2 roster has become financially unviable. The economics of esports, in general, are putting pressure on organizations: expenses for salaries, logistics, and training are rising, while monetization sources are shrinking.
Recall that Tundra Esports was one of the strongest organizations in Dota 2 – the team won The International 2022. After the sale, the fate of the roster and its participation in TI 2026 became uncertain.
