For over a year, Falcons has remained a team with big money, a roster of star players, and consistent runs to key stages of tournaments, yet they lack trophies. Each time, the "falcons" were missing something, which led the organization to despair and sign the 36-year-old captain Finn karrigan Andersen, whose best years seemed to be behind him. This reshuffle came as a complete surprise to fans and the CS2 community.
In this article, CyberMeta will explain why Falcons has been unable to turn its star roster into a truly championship project, why the club needed to replace kyxsan with karrigan, and whether the 36-year-old former FaZe captain can truly change the game for the "falcons." We will also analyze why this transfer appears both logical and risky, and what it could mean for Falcons in the long run.
Falcons – a team with immense potential but no trophies
The core of the current Falcons roster has been playing together for over a year. The starting point can be considered April 14, 2025 – that’s when Ilya m0NESY Osipov joined the team. Since then, changes have been minimal: only at the end of June did Maxim kyousuke Lukin strengthen the roster, but overall the team structure remained the same.
During this time, the "falcons" participated in 16 tournaments – and failed to secure a trophy each time. The team reached the grand finals five times, each time just a step away from the long-awaited victory. The team's results over the past year are as follows:
| # | Tournament | Place |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | IEM Rio 2026 | 3rd place |
| 2 | BLAST Open Rotterdam 2026 | 5-6th place |
| 3 | PGL Cluj-Napoca 2026 | 5-8th place |
| 4 | IEM Kraków 2026 | 7-8th place |
| 5 | BLAST Bounty 2026 Season 1 | 2nd place |
| 6 | StarLadder Budapest Major 2025 | 5-8th place |
| 7 | BLAST Rivals 2025 Season 2 | 2nd place |
| 8 | IEM Chengdu 2025 | 3rd place |
| 9 | ESL Pro League Season 22 | 2nd place |
| 10 | FISSURE Playground 2 | 3-4th place |
| 11 | Esports World Cup 2025 | 3rd place |
| 12 | IEM Cologne 2025 | 9-12th place |
| 13 | BLAST.tv Austin Major 2025 | 12-14th place |
| 14 | IEM Dallas 2025 | 3-4th place |
| 15 | BLAST Rivals 2025 Season 1 | 2nd place |
| 16 | IEM Melbourne 2025 | 2nd place |
With such a roster, community expectations have been sky-high from the start. This has become one of the key problems for the team. In the group stages, the "falcons" consistently look like one of the strongest teams: confident play, good and well-thought-out structure. However, once the playoffs begin, the picture always changes – tension arises, stability disappears, and individual players start to simply drop out of the game.
It is telling that in all these 16 tournaments, the team only failed to reach the playoffs three times. This means the team almost always makes it to the decisive stages, but there, time and again, they cannot handle the pressure and take the final step.
Officially: karrigan – new captain of Team Falcons
On the evening of April 20, 2026, Falcons officially announced on their social media that they had signed 36-year-old Finn karrigan Andersen as captain. In the updated roster, the Dane took the place of Damian kyxsan Stoilkovski, who was moved to the bench.
format_quoteSome hear sirens – we hear the beginning of a new chapter. Welcome to Falcons, karrigan. The whistle that marks the start of a new era!🦅Falcons
After the official announcement of the transfer, karrigan commented on his joining Falcons:
format_quoteI am happy to announce that I am indeed joining Falcons and reuniting with my old brothers – NiKo and zonic, as well as with new teammates I am excited to work with. Let’s make history!Finn karrigan Andersen
Thus, the organization made a key reshuffle in the current roster, replacing not just one of the players, but a figure around whom the team’s in-game system was built. However, neither in the official announcement from Falcons nor in other public sources is it revealed how much this transfer cost the club. The financial details of the deal remain unknown at this time.
Why did Falcons bet on karrigan?
Despite the star power of the current Falcons roster, the team's problem has long been not a lack of firepower. By names alone, the "falcons" already have one of the strongest rosters on the scene – with players capable of making a difference on any level. But this is precisely why the club needed not just another performer, but someone who could build a clear and robust system from this star-studded lineup. In such a roster, it is no longer enough to just call well. A captain is needed who can impose order, boost morale, quell chaos, and be an unquestionable leader for the team.
From this perspective, the choice of karrigan seems quite logical. Yes, mechanically the Dane is no longer the player who will consistently rack up kills and elevate the team's overall firepower. But Falcons clearly did not sign him for that. The club needs a captain with immense authority, experience working with superstars, and the ability to unite strong individualists under a single idea. In his prime, karrigan built his career on this: he knew how to gather top performers around him and turn their strengths into a functioning team model.
Damian kyxsan Stoilkovski was unlikely a bad captain – the problem was more about the scale of the task. For such a star-studded and ambitious roster, he simply lacked the experience, "class," and that unquestionable authority that allows one to keep all players under control. And it seems that the coaching staff of Falcons could not compensate for this either. As we noted in detail in one of our previous articles, the team's head coach – Danny zonic Sørensen is more of an "atmosphere manager" than a system architect – a person who helps emotionally and maintains the overall vibe, but does not build a strict gameplay hierarchy.
Therefore, the logic behind this transfer seems quite transparent. Falcons needed not another performer, but a strong voice and a firm hand – a captain capable of imposing authority, setting clear boundaries for the team, and assembling a star-studded roster into a more manageable system. From this perspective, the choice of karrigan is quite understandable: among free agents on the market, he is indeed one of the most interesting options for a team that has long lacked not shooting, but order.
"Captain from a sinking ship": why karrigan's arrival could become a big problem for Falcons?
But this transfer also has a quite obvious downside. The team has not gained a captain at the peak of his gaming abilities, but a player who is leaving a deeply crisis-ridden FaZe Clan. In recent months, the Danish veteran has been part of a clearly failing stretch – at the start of the new season, FaZe participated in six tier-1 tournaments, but failed to reach the playoffs even once, repeatedly being eliminated in the early stages and finishing in positions that are simply humiliating for a team of such status.
Even worse is that questions about karrigan are now arising not only regarding the team's results but also about his personal form. According to statistics at the time of the transfer, he remains the worst player among all representatives of the top 20 teams in the world with an average rating of 0.84 over the past six months. And it’s not just about poor shooting. As we noted in detail in one of our previous articles, along with the drop in individual form, his captaincy functions began to crumble: if in 2025 the percentage of rounds won on the attacking side for FaZe was 51.6%, then over the past six months this figure dropped to 46%. In practice, this looked like a complete loss of structure – the team increasingly played not from a system but from individual actions and random frags.
After being eliminated from PGL Bucharest 2026, the last tournament for FaZe where the team finished in last place (15-16), karrigan himself did not hide how difficult this all was for him:
format_quoteMy game is going poorly, the results are disappointing. This season I have had issues with my psychological state, even though I tried to remain a strong leader.Finn karrigan Andersen
Therefore, this transfer seems not only loud but also genuinely risky. It’s simple – if karrigan has indeed run out of fresh ideas and mentally he can no longer handle the previous load, then instead of the long-awaited system, Falcons may only receive more pressure, more nervousness, and another expensive failure.
What awaits Falcons and when will we see the "new falcons"?
On paper, signing karrigan looks loud, logical, and even somewhat forced, but a transfer of this scale right before a major tournament is always a risk. Falcons will have little time for a long adaptation, meaning the first conclusions about this replacement will have to be drawn almost immediately.
Let’s recall, the new roster of Falcons looks as follows:
- Nikola NiKo Kovač;
- Ilya m0NESY Osipov;
- Maxim kyousuke Lukin;
- Finn karrigan Andersen;
- René TeSeS Madsen.
The first tournament for the updated roster will be PGL Astana 2026, which will take place in Kazakhstan from May 9 to 17, 2026. This event will mark the debut of the new Falcons roster and the first real test of how quickly the team can adapt.
In any case, Falcons has pulled off one of the most ambiguous and loud transfers in recent months. On one hand, the team has acquired a captain with a huge name, experience, and authority. On the other hand, they have taken on a player who approaches this challenge in a very difficult state.
What do you think – will the "falcons" play tougher and more consistently with the new captain, or will the team's results, on the contrary, decline even further? Share your opinion in the comments and read the news on CyberMeta.
