Dota 2 received patch 7.41d on July 1, 2026, a week before the start of the EWC. This means that all group stage matches in Paris are played on this version, and its changes directly affect the pool of heroes and team strategies. One of the notable system innovations is the Dark Carnival Scrap mechanic. Now, for a regular ranked match, players receive 2 Scrap, for a Turbo - 1. Having accumulated 6 Scrap, you can choose any Hero ticket. The system also provides different rewards for winning and losing, which makes it more accessible to a wider audience. Role Queue has also undergone a change: now, to receive bonuses, you just need to choose one high-demand role instead of two. The previous system created unnecessary friction - the new one should lower the entry threshold and speed up the search for matches. Among the changes to the heroes, the closure of the Shadow Fiend exploit stands out: it is no longer possible to endlessly gain souls through a combination of Feast of Souls and Octarine Core. Storm Spirit received a nerf to the aganim shard - Overload now deals damage from 3 sources instead of 6. Oracle lost the Debuff Immunity penetration through the level 25 talent. Lone Druid no longer loses Spirit Bear when resummoned - the bear survives. Morphling (attribute shift mechanic), Tiny, Kez and Invoker also received general nerfs. All four heroes were considered strong in the previous version, and nerfing them could redistribute the pick pool on EWC. A small but convenient UI change: Soul Ring now displays temporary mana as a separate segment on the mana panel, giving players a more accurate view of resources in battle. The patch does not radically change the meta, but targeted nerfs to top heroes and system changes make it significant in the context of the tournament season.
